Challenging! Inspiring! Biblically-Solid!

Facedown is a companion volume to Matt Redman's album of the same name. But don't think it's just a fluffy little book meant to make some money off the popularity of the CD. Facedown is a well-researched, well-written, moving treatise on worship as a response to God's majesty and glory. Redman, an extraordinary songwriter, is also a fine prose-writer. He makes his points clearly and elegantly.
Every worship leader and worship songwriter should read this book. But it's not just for worship insiders. It will help every reader to worship God more fully and humbly.

Wow...just wow

Matt Redman released his CD "Facedown" and I don't think people really understood what he meant in the title, maybe they did, but they didn't completely understand it. Matt Redman puts that into his words in this book. Give us a totally new perspective of worshipping, on how it should really be. I must agree with him, how he says when you are truly worshipping you will be facedown before the lord, giving him everything you have. Everyone should pick up a copy of this book.

For the future, the danger is that the psychiatrically real becomes that which can be seen, the symptom, and especially that which can be measured. Disorders and treatments might become reduced to what can be defined by diagnostic criteria and what can be mapped out on a scale.

James Phillips is in the private practice of psychiatry, with a focus on medically oriented psychotherapy, and Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in the Yale School of Medicine. He is Secretary and member of the Executive Committee of the Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry, and is editor of the AAPP Bulletin. He has written extensively in the area of philosophy and psychiatry and is on the editorial board of the journal, Philosophy, Psychiatry, Psychology. He is co-editor (with James Morley) of Imagination and its Pathologies (MIT Press, 2002. Since 2004 he has been involved in developing and supporting a psychiatric clinic in Ayacucho, Peru, a rural Andean city, and he travels there regularly.

Not a good book.

I took a class using this book last semester. The only other review made on this book was dead on. For a text book in it's fourth edition, it is loaded with errors. As a text book, in organization of the subject matter, I think it's logically laid out. But if there's no teacher to ferret out the errors in it, you will go mad trying to figure out where you went wrong. You cannot pick up this book and go through it on your own. I really don't believe there is a good excuse for such poor proof reading, and failure to make corrections, especially in a fourth edition, and even more a text book. Also, the class I took used the authors test questions. ALL were word problems, every single question. I found the questions less than straight foreword and clear. Nobody in the class I was in ever obtaind a 100% correct test score. I find that word problems are used primarily to try to confuse the people they are used on. This is a tatic that many organizations that have certifications use in their testing. They use it to trip you up in a question. The author succeeds in this very well. I inquired to the teacher of the class about the way the questions were written, and his explination to me was "To get you to think outside of the box"? This is supposed to be math, not a guessing game. I seriously do not recommend this book, for any reason. I suggest you check the class, and if this book is being used, don't take that class.
