Surprising and Lasting

At university I got stuck one year with an empty slot and took, of all things, a philosophy class. It surprised me by being one of the most memorable classes I ever had. Magister Ludi was one of the assigned books and when I started reading it I knew I would hate it. Fooled me. I gradually moved into that world and ended up miserable to have to leave it. It's lyrical and though provoking. My favorite part is a poem added at the end, "Stages." Because of the translation from German the language of the poem is a bit florid, but the thoughts are a lesson about very important things.

Another fine resource from the folks at REA!

If you are taking a course covering the theory of Advanced Calculus or perhaps in introductory Real Analysis, this book is a great buy. There is alot of material covered, but make sure that you compare the syllabus of your couse and the contents of this book before buying. This book contains fully (and I mean fully) worked out solutions to very difficult problems that you may encounter in such courses. My only complaint is that there should have been included more of the proof-type questions for infinte suequences and series. However, if you taking merely an introductory calculus course, you would be better off buying REA's "Calulus Problem Solver", which is another great book.

Some of the problems presented there are interesting and uncommon, but also, some of them are very easy. Good choice to practice and improve comprehension.

This book contains a wealth of useful information. My only complaint is that REA hasn't re-set the book in a decent type face. Instead, they continue to publish these books that look like they were typeset on a manual typewriter. Very hard on the eyes...

Thank you so, so much, Nick Parish. Cool Code, Bro effectively summarizes a complex and polarizing issue in the tech world today, and anyone surrounded by brogrammers- whether on the job or at school- will find this resonating. Many examples are woven in throughout the book, all useful and relevant. Personally, I enjoyed the speculations at the end about the future of the tech industry, and what it means to be cut out for computer science. But more than anything, I appreciated the engaging writing style- Parish never lectures or preaches. Cool Code, Bro strives to open a conversation that reaches beyond the scope of Silicon Valley and university dormrooms, and it succeeds magnificently.

Great read. Covers numerous areas of the silicon valley/programmer landscape and it's current evolution. Nick does a great job of capturing how "brogrammers" are taking over tech and resulting conflicts with the status quo.

I really recommend these two books to all readers.  You don't have to be a fan of X sports or skate boarding to be interested in these books. This is a story of two broken people finding their place in the world and hoping their place is with each other. It is friends who stand by their friends and never let them down.  Giving each other the support they need when at times they would rather just be alone. While the issues that are discussed in this book are not to be taken to be lightly and Kay does a magnificent job with it. She does an amazing job expression each and every emotion for all the characters and clutches your heart. Her skill for storytelling is breathtaking and sucks you right in. Whew! What a great novel!

I had to walk away from this book a couple of times while reading this- THAT'S HOW ENCOMPASSING THIS BOOK WAS FOR ME! I started this last night, and couldn't seem to stop, except when the suspense actually felt too intense for me. It had all the elements of a great continuing storyline (If you haven't read Skater Boy, you NEED to read that before this- My Skater Boy is a sequel) of romance filled with angst, trauma, despair, then hope.

I've been recommending Skater Boy to friends, and now have a second book to recommend them!

My only point of sadness is that one point of Hindley's life wasn't resolved- but I hope that the subplot regarding the one who was in jail (sorry, don't want to spoil any part of this book for you) gets some attention in future books. I know that timeline-wise, it's not possible to resolve this, but I'd just love to have this addressed in future books!

I didn't think that this story could get any better, But it did. It started off right where book 1 left off at. This one turns out to be Hindley's turn to open up about her past and share her secrets. OK let me talk about the ending which had been bugging me since I finished the story. I didn't like it don't get me wrong I like the way the story turned out in fact I love how the story turned out I just didn't like the huge jump that is did that kinda sucked.

Kay, If you read your reviews (most authors do, but some choose not to), just know that I loved this story so much. At the end of book one I downloaded book 2 and continued the story of Rory Gregor and Hindley Hagan. It was funny in places, heartbreaking in others. The story's plot flowed perfectly and I just loved it.
