Excellent written primer, substandard paperback printing

I came to "Windows Server 2012: Up and Running" via the online version at Safari Books Online (I use it in college). Crisp text, full color illustrations; a great source of information. Then the book arrived. The grays/blacks/whites in the print and illustrations remind me of a so-so copy machine job. Some of the print in the illustrations is simply unreadable. Yes, it could just be my copy but the comments in the (as of 3/24/2013) only other review also mention issues with the type and printing. The previews available (through Google preview) on the publisher's site (O'Reilly) show a full color book.

To be fair to Amazon, if you click on the print version preview on Amazon, it does show black-and-white illustrations. I did not view the print version preview on Amazon prior to purchasing the book because nothing in the description - at least nothing I could see - indicated that the print version would be different from the online version. And, really, I would have been happy with the b/w layout if the illustrations were legible.

The constant distraction of the poor printing is unfortunate. First time author Samara Lynn is clearly enthusiastic about Server 2012 and cares enough to communicate her ideas in a clear, concise style that retains a light, flowing character. Her references to the differences between 2012 and past versions will help uses familiar with the Server family feel at home.

The book is not the be-all, end-all of Server 2012 books and that's why the subtitle is "Up and Running." I used the material to do just that - get up and running in a short time. Active Directory, Hyper-V, User Management, networking, remote access - the basics are covered. Navigating the new GUI access is also covered (I was happy to hear that the author briefly had the same trouble I did - how do I shut this thing down?)

Verdict: Good written introduction to Server 2012 that should be read via the online version (Safari, if you have access) or the Kindle version. I've come to expect more from books carrying the O'Reily imprint. If I had ordered the Kindle version or reviewed the Safari online version, my rating would be 5-stars.

Terrible Screenshots; Better Instructions on Google

O'Reilly has long held a reputation for top-flight technical books. I think it's a bit undeserved, but generally speaking I've been happy with them. This book, however, will have you asking how it made it to press. Because it's a basic, "click this, then that" type of book, it goes without saying that the screenshots that go with the instructions should be clear. What you get instead are black-and-white images that look as if they've been photocopied on a printer needing a toner refresh. Look at the other reviews here, and even the generously forgiving hearts who awarded five stars to this mess give mention to the poor quality of the graphics.

One of my pet peeves about tech books--one that I will not overlook and have written about before--is paying a lot of money for a skinny text with huge diagrams/images/screenshots that take up so many pages like deliberate filler. Not only was that the case here, but the images were nearly unreadable.

Two stars may have been appropriate, but due to the foolish five-star reviewers who do you a disservice, it's a one.

Very Nice

This book is a very good read. Well outlined, obviously very well researched and fun to read. I only wished however, that the illustrations were in color or at least large enough that the options and settings in the diagrams could be seen. It's one thing to read about (for example) Converting GUI to Minimal Server Interface, but not being able to view the diagrams clearly leaves me a bit frustrated. Good as a primer on Server 2012 though.

OMG! I loved this story. It was so outside the box. Andrew and Philly were both good men underneath their flaws. Emmie was nothing but a gold digger. I was kinda mad a Andrew for a second because he was playing with Ya-Ya's feelings. I was shocked at what Philly revealed to Milan about her incident. I'm glad that she didn't let that interfere with the relationship with their child. I found myself smiling and on the verge of tears at the end. I'm glad Andrew and Philly got their happy endings. I hope to read more about them in the future.

Powerful Love Story...A Must Read

This book had me all in my feelings. I loved and hated this book at the same time. I loved the sense of family and the family unit in this book. You couldn't help but love the Logan family. I was upset that Milan didn't report what happened to her (which is a true depiction of what happens often in real life) and I was upset when I learned that Philly could have intervened. At first I was mad at Philly for abandoning Milan after she shared her tragedy and I was glad when he explained why and it all began to make sense. I didn't like that Drew stayed with Emmie so long when it was obvious what she was after. I would have loved to see Philly's mom interaction with the baby since she had been on him to settle down and why didn't Milan reach out to Joy once she told Philly about Ally. All in all I really did enjoy this book and the characters. I was glad when Philly stepped up and help Drew and I was glad that both of them got what the deserved in the end along with Milan and Ya'tara. This was definitely a roller coaster ride but you will enjoy it. This book dealt with some real issues so...Sit back relax and enjoy.

This was a good holiday read. I enjoyed both couples, but Andrew and Ya'Tara stood out to me. Best friends since childhood. Their storyline and love seem more realistic. It would be good to see these characters in a future book & Drew sister Faith, even the jump ship girlfriend Mary-Elizabeth. Milan, Alexander & baby Ally. I only gave the story 4 stars because the story seemed rushed towards the end. I've only read a couple of books by this author, but I enjoyed reading her books, because everything wasn't based on money, big house, & bad cars for a urban read. A'zayler writing style can be about you, someone you know or your next door neighbor. Looking to read more of her work.

One of the most extraordinary poets of any era, American poetess Emily Dickinson wrote a huge amount of poetry (nearly 1800 poems). This book ranges from her early work to the late pieces, and features many of Dickinson's most famous pieces. This new edition includes many new poems.

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 - May 15, 1886) was born in Amherst, MA. Much of her later life was led in privacy, in the family home in Massachusetts. For some, she was a recluse, famous among locals for wearing white clothes, seldom travelled, preferred correspondence to meeting people in the flesh, and was known for talking to visitors thru a door. She wrote nearly 1800 poems, but only a few were published during her lifetime.

The poetry of Emily Dickinson is among the strangest, the most compelling and the most direct in world literature. There is nothing else quite like it. Dickinson writes in short lyrics, often just eight lines long, often in regular quatrains, but often in irregular lines consisting of two half-lines joined in the middle by a dash (such as: ''Tis Honour - though I die' in "Had I presumed to hope"). Her subjects appear to be the traditional ones of poetry, blocked in with capital letters: God, Love, Hope, Time, Death, Nature, the Sea, the Sun, the World, Childhood, the Past, History, and so on. Yet what exactly is Dickinson discussing? Who is the 'I', the 'Thee', the 'we' and the 'you' in her poetry? This is where things become much more ambiguous. Dickinson is very clear at times in her poetry, until one considers deeper exactly what she is saying - but this ambiguity is one of the hallmarks and the delights of her art.
